Film Industry

Funding

1) The budget for "Chicken" was £110,000

2)The budget was raised through investments from his rich friends.

3)The budget for "Chicken" is whats considered a micro-budget as it is very small compared to the likes of "Paddington 2" or "Spectre." The budget for "spectre" was £240 million. The budget for "Paddington 2" was £35,849,000

4)The BFI film fund is a body that funds the production of films from up and coming directors who want to make films. It contributes to the British Film Industry as it funds many British Films.

5)Chicken may not have received funding from the BFI due to the fact that it challenges many harsher and darker themes, that of which may not have been deemed appropriate for the big screen.

Production

1)There were lighting issues for the lighting as they were outside, to avoid the costs of renting a studio. Doing this meant that it was harder to film in darker environments and that the lighting quality of the film was in a way left to chance. Also, it would rain quite often, meaning that they would not be able to film some days because of the rain.

2)The chicken was in filming for a total of 19 days.

3)The types of shots that were hard to film were the ones which required good weather for an extended period of time as those are the shots that required the weather to be good and stable due, but because of the fact that they were in England, the weather was against them most of the time.

Distribution

1) Chicken may have failed to secure a distribution deal in 2014 due tot the fact that the views and themes were quite dark, meaning that people may not have seen it being successful. Also, this is due to the fact that this is an art house cinema type of film, meaning that you wouldn't see this type of film in a regular cinema.

2)Chicken won awards at: the Cannes Film Festival, the Edinburgh Film Festival, the New Hampshire Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, Cine A La Vista Film festival and many more.

3)This is because film festivals try to focus on the smaller, lower budget, art house style of films, unlike the Oscars which award films mainly aimed at a mass audience.

4)Chicken made it to cinema screens in 2016 in May.

5)MUBI may have chosen to put this film on their service due to the fact that they show a lot of art house style films on this service.

6)This is because Film4 is synonymous with British Films and supporting them, in terms of funding, meaning that it is quite fitting for a British film to be aired on a channel that supports this style of films.

7)Chicken will be available on iTunes in the USA in January of 2018, as well as DVD in the USA and Canada.

Promotion

1)The trailer of this film suggests that it is quite a happy and normal film with the "boy meets girl" theme to it, whereas in fact, this film challenges themes that wouldn't be seen in mainstream media products in general, because of how crude the idea is.

2)In the film poster and trailer, the field is commonly displayed, which could partly be because of the fact that it is Richard's home and is all that he knows. Also, the chicken is commonly referred to in the poster and the trailer, understandable, because that is the name of the film, but it can be seen as what keeps Richards emotions stable, so when that isn't there anymore, his emotions simple explode.

3)Reviews from people like Mark Kermode are vital to the film gaining promotion due to the fact that he is a well-respected film critic, meaning that people will be quite impressionable to what he says, meaning that if he gives it a good review, more people are going to want to see the film to see why Kermode gave it such a good review, giving the film more revenue.

4)The "Chicken" twitter account maintains interest by pining tweets about the release of the film in other countries, e.e.g USA/Canada. Also, it re tweets from celebrities to display what potentially influential people like the film so that their fans watch the film and support the cast and co.

5)The "Chicken" twitter account re tweets that are giving the film praise or tweets that are spreading the word of "Chicken" coming to the USA and Canada.

6)The Facebook page for "Chicken" uses this platform to like posts on peoples pages that are giving the film praise, this helps to promote the film as it helps put the idea that the film is very good.

7)The Facebook page has liked posts that have reviewed the film and said good things about it. This is due to the fact that the editors of the facebook page are trying to give the film a good brand image, as a really good arthouse film.

8)The main celebrity mentioned is Leonardo di Caprio. This may be highlighted due to the fact that he is an academy award winning actor, so the fact that people are comparing him to the actor playing Richard suggests that the acting in this film is top quality.

9)The main purpose of the website is to promote the film and convince people to watch the film. This is carried out by displaying the trailer for viewers to see. Also, it has links to where you can watch/buy the film.

10)The videos featured include the trailer, as well as important/funny scene from the film. These are done to give the audience previews of the light-hearted theme of the film, without trying to spoil the shock twist. Also, the fact that the channel constantly has the clips from the film uploaded to it means that the viewers/audience and users of YouTube will be reminded of the film and their liking towards it, making them want to see it again, or even for the first time.
