Within this picture, you can see a clear use of backlighting and filler lighting to create a low key lighting effect as all the left is coming from the left side to shine on the right side of her face. the use of showing only half her face creates a mysterious effect. The use of the light coming from the back makes the cigarette smoke around her look very strong and therefore entices the audience as to why she is by herself in a relatively dark room smoking a cigarette. Once again this still image has used low key lighting as the only clear light we can see being used is a top lighting this creates another ominous and mysterious effect. The use of top lighting means the only areas we can see the lady is her face. The use of only showing her face makes us the viewer question as to why the director has created the effect of us only being able to look at her face and no other parts of the body.
